Default how much cheaper to pack yourself?

hi.. i'm sure this has been discussed before, but for the life of me cannot find the thread

please if you want to point me should there be one before this... or

a few very simple questions from me... for those who had done it already, and arrived on the other side...

1) how much CHEAPER is it to pack your own container?
2) how much WORK is it to pack your own container?
3) how much HASSLE is it at the other end.. as in AQIS... charges... etc
4) how much DAMAGES did you have (if any)

thanks!!

It may of course just be very good blurb from the shipping companies but....

AQIS more likely to scrutinise your load than if you have been packed by reputable shipper!

Consider the insurance implications of self-packing

Professional packers are very much more efficient than your average Joe & will pack much more quickly & space efficiently than you wil ever do.

Do you need the added stress at this stage?

Hi, the lads @ Brittania told me it would cost them £200 for evry hour over the 3 allowed to pack the container, they were almost running with the gear, poor lads were dripping with sweat, i had to help them (not the kind of person to stand and watch)
well worth the money for the whole job, they were there 4 days wrapping EVERYTHING. Good advise from them also. If you can afford it, let them get on with it.
We fly on monday, so i'll let you know how it goes the other end.

It's shocking how stressful it is - even leaving it to them - so I would agree. Let them do it.

From memory it doesn't work out that much cheaper to pack it yourself. It's well worth having the shippers do it and saving yourself the hassle and stress imo.

If you can, let them do it. I never envisaged the amount of work we had to do and how tired and stressed I was in the lead up to moving. I think packing a container would have tipped me over the edge - then again, that depends on how much stuff you have!

When I shipped stuff over they told me they wouldn't insure it unless it was professionally packed.

I am getting the packers to do it and thank god I am - cleaning everything to within an inch of it's life is taking longer than I ever expected - it is amazing how you think you have scrubbed and cleaned them enough and then they dry an oh you missed that speck of dirt!!! I do wonder though if I am going over board with it all - but don't want to take the risk!! On that note off I go a cleaning again - I should have shares in Jeyes and Cif!!!!

Not true. Although, individual breakages (for chinaware, crystal etc) aren't able to be insuranced against.

I did a couple of boxes of personal stuff myself. Other than that, they did the lot. A team of 4 packed on day 1 and the morning of day 2. In the afternoon the container came and they packed that to within an inch of its life!

They work really quickly and are experienced in getting the most amount of stuff into the smallest space, ie cushions under chairs etc.

We had 3 lads wrapping constantly for 3 .5 days, no way could me and my wife do that in a week, also to save your blushes put your knicker draw in a bag/box yourself. Believe me, after talking to them over a cuppa they have seen it all.
