nope - i'm willing to take over as much as you'd like

seriously though - do you mean via a bank transfer?
if so - i don't think there is any limit...

take a look at specialist foreign exchange companies (HiFX, Ozforex etc) for better rates than banks (most of the time)

There are a few of us on here use Moneygram you send the money from the UK and ten minutes later you can collect it from any of their branches. Our friends just did this yesterday they transfered $4000. Other places will probably have cheaper fees but it is great to use if the money is needed the same day.

I think you will find that anti money laundering laws prohibit the transfer of more than £10,000 or $ per day.

We have just had to make several daily transfers of $10,000 within OZ due to this problem, to buy a new car.

Do you mean cash as in paper money or electronic transfers?

We transferred a chunk of about $80,000 when we bought a house in Aus (but while living in the UK where we still are) and that had no problems at all. That was three years ago. No one questioned it...

Your bank might have rules about how much they allow to transfer at a time, but there's no blanket ban on transferring more than $10,000. Possibly (I'm guessing) that might apply if you are doing it online rather than turning up at the bank in person with appropriate identity. Certainly we had no problem transferring £350,000 in one lump last year.

No ban, but you will have to declare it, otherwise Customs, AFP and the ATO, might get a little interested in where it come from and where it's going.

Declare it to whom? And why? Surely most immigrants transfer over varying amounts at some stage; ours was to buy a flat and was purely a capital lump sum. I can't see why that would be of interest to anyone in officialdom....

Banks have been required to report large transactions for years. It is to determine whether or not the funds are the proceeds of crime, ie drugs, money-laundering, tax evasion etc. If you have nothing to hide, no problem.

My UK bank lets me transfer £10k a day online, but if I go in, or phone up I can transfer as much as I like! Infact thinking about it, just 7 months ago we transfered £35k without any problems, or having to declare it to anyone.
