Default How many hours in average working weeks?

Just wondered. Is a 'full-time' week likely to be 35, 37 or 40 hours or somewhere in-between? Can't see it being any more or less?

Ah, wasn't sure if it was for a job or for a visa

I usually work it around 40 hours, then it's always on the low side and if you only work 37 hours you get more

Think I'll plump for 37.5 as it's in the middle. (so better than 40 )

At Rio it is officially 40 hours but in practice 45 is average. At Alinta 37.5 was standard but 50-60 was typical. Rio's main contractors have 45-48 hours standard in their contracts, I think, but they pay very well in return for that. Contractors can be on either a daily or hourly rate - With the hours I am doing the hourly rate adds 10% to my income so I prefer it.

At FMG (mining project) we have an official 45 hour week although we are hourly paid. In reality I do up to 50 hours which suits me.

Really depends on who you are working for and what Industrial Award you are under. Normally 37.5 to 38hr (+overtime if appic), though under Federal AWA's it is whatever the employer stipulates (reportedly can reach 60 hrs for some businesses).

It depends on your industry, firm and level etc but for those of us in white collar jobs I believe awards are rare.

We do 37. But I only do about 35 as my manager likes to tell me to go home to my family.

It depends on what type of job you do. I work for Rio also and work 40 hours - never more. Most contractors in my department work 37.5, certainly never more than 40.

I'm supposed to work 37.5 but lately I've been working an average of 24-28 hours at the office and maybe 3 or 4 at home per week. My employer thinks it's more important for me to be at home shortly after the kids get off school than to be in the office. If there is something I don't need to be there to do then I will bring it home and do it here.
