Sandy BTW where in the North East do you hail from? |

I see you are young so I'll let you off lightly. Australia is on the other side of the world, some 15,000km (roughly 10,000 miles) from the UK. To ensure that you don't get bored would require a plane travelling at about 1600mph. This is a little over twice the speed of sound, or Mach 2. Your typical Boeing 747, however, has a cruising spped of about Mach 0.85. I suggest you take a book. Or a Gameboy. Or something. |

Re: how long is the flight
Hi
I've flown with BA and Quantas...2 flights back to back, a 13 hour followed by an 8 hour Melbourne, via Singapore. We have a movie screen each in the seat in front of us and a good selection of movies, sitcoms, cartoons and games. The food was great on both flights but the seats are very cramped in cattle class. I'm 5'4" and a size 10 and I found it a struggle! The best flights leave London at 10pm so you can sleep for the best part of the 13 hour flight, the 8 hour flight was the most difficult. If you do 2 flights back to back (which I don't recommend) be sure to shower at Singapore or where ever you stop to refuel! Kathy |

tell your parents to let u sit on your arse in your room for 24 hours. get them to bring you dinner and as much as u want to drink, then come and clear up after u. while u sit and watch the telly ;) cant be that hard can it. |

Food portions would have to be tiny and, for true authenticity, practically inedible. :D

**WARNING- Controversial Repsonse**
I like flying, I have just done some quick totting up and reckon I have flown about 67 times in the last 5 or 6 years. The food in Economy is generally suitable and adequate bearing in mind that it is being prepared and served at approx. 35,000 feet and 500mph. I have had some truly fantastic meals in Business and First. The flight attendants are generally friendly and helpful; notable exceptions were an Air2000 flight to the Maldives about 4 years ago and Aeroflot to and from China. Leg room in Economy isn’t that bad, I am an average 5ft 9, and the person in front reclining is only really a problem at meal times when the attendants generally ask people to sit upright anyway. Sleeping, chatting, eating, reading, watching TV, playing games, walking around etc are pretty good for relieving any boredom. Surely if you get wound up before a flight it is not going to be any good. If you try looking forward to them they go a lot quicker/easier. It’s not really all that bad is it? I'm sure 'beerboy' is a lot happier after reading all these positive posts... Cheers. |
Re: how long is the flight
I'm 5ft 10, hubbie is 6ft 2. Economy leg room can be a bit of a 'mare (but it depends who you fly with).
As for meals, the worst I remember was on Malaysian Airlines; being woken up at something like 4 am to be fed really, really hot curry (and I lurrrve curry, but that was a bit too full on!). But that's generally the least of our problems, as I'm scared of flying and so Mr GG has to suffer having his hand gripped tightly for most of the flight. Arrrgggh! All worried again now thinking about flying. Off for a lie down somewhere dark. GG
