My experience its 18 months start to finish.

That's including the time it took for me to get all documentation needed for skills assessment.

We got our 136 visa, not on MODL list December 06.

Applied June 06, but frontloaded medicals and police checks.
We sent off for skills assessment the year before and that only took 8 weeks.

We took a break inbetween skills assessment and visa application.
That enabled us to sort things out, save money and research.

So I guess you could start to finish in a year, depending on what type of visa you apply for and of course everything depends on personal circumstances.

Good luck - it's a roller coaster ride :scared:

I applied for a 136 skilled visa and was a non MODL. Took me 6 and half months.

Have a look on www.be-forum.co.uk regarding time lines as you'll find alot of answers on there.

After reading staceylhughes post, mine is abit vague. It's taken me just over a year with my TRA application. I front loaded my meds and pccs.

How long is a piece of string......depends on your visa type, just for starters, and then on a million and one other things after that. Also times can change - 136 visas can now take only a few months, 3 years back they were taking 2-3 years to process.

I sent off application for 136 in May and received medical requests 1 weeks ago, so 6 months. Not sure how long the rest will take.

Our skills assessment through Engineers Australia took 1 month, that includes the work on our end. Very straightforward only needed degree, resume, form and fee of course.

The visa (136 MODL) took 5 and a half months in total. I worked on the forms while waiting for the skills assessment to come back. We sent in medicals and police checks one month before we expected a case officer. We got a case officer and visa grant in the same day.

As Pollyana said it depends on many things:

1. Type of visa (temp, permanent, sponsored, parent, spouse, last remaining relative, etc)
2. Priority of visa
3. Region you're from
4. Does it require sponsors, which could add time
5. Your medical condition, will you need specialist reports?
6. Police checks, some countries take a long time
7. Reference checks, if DIMA does them it could add time as well
8. Whether you frontload (send information before it is requested)
9. How long of a wait when booking medicals, really important if you wait until you are asked for them

These are just a few things I can think of. A spouse visa may take only a few weeks, a permanent non-modl may take a year or more, a parent visa could a lot more than a year. If you want more information relative to your visa type have a look at this site:

TRA application sent 27 October 2005
Positive skills assessment received 28 November 2005
Visa application sent to DIMA 02 February 2006
Positive outcome 12 July 2006

So, in total 8 months 2 weeks. Could have been less, but there was a problem getting my son's passport and we couldn't send the application off until we got it.

Check out www.austimeline.com for up to date information. You can search by all kinds of criteria.
