Put it this way - I did exactly the same as you and booked an appointment at the AHC and got an answer that same day (a thumbs-up thank god!).

If you post it, as far as I'm aware, it shouldn't be longer than two or three weeks.

Hope that helps.

Yeh, apparently they've only started doing it.

I got everything ready, emailed the AHC to book an appointment and they gave me a date eight weeks later. I was going to Australia anyway for a month, so it worked out perfectly, as when I got back, I was given an immediate answer.

Very happy! If anyone has doubts of how to do it, I thoroughly recommend this way - it cuts out a lot of stress...

The only reason they wouldn't give you an answer on the day of your appointment is if you haven't got everything they've asked for in your front-end loaded application. So make sure you have!

I have all of the info required for this visa. And meet all of the criteria.

Is it actually possible for them to refuse me if I meet all criteria

This is really making me paranoid!!!

Nah, I reckon you'll be okay. Don't go in too confident, but if you feel you have everything covered, you should be heading Down Under before you know it.

Well I have the following

3 x stat decs from family/friends
witness statements from me/fioncee
id documents from us both
copies of utility bills - rent/council tax/bank account
medical
xray
blood test results
police check
form 40sp/47
Photos of us both for id purposes

so everything we been asked for is there

I am not getting an appointment - just sending, as I am aware appointment times are 6-8 weeks away.

How long do we get to validate once it is given.

Do they put visa in my passport - do I have to send it or go down in person to get it???

Cheers

Yeh, 3 stat decs should be enough - I think I had five, but I'm not sure it was necessary to have that many.

You get one year from the date of your medical to get into Australia - worth remembering, as it won't be from the date you get your temporary visa.

And yes, the visa is a form they put in your passport. As I had mine done there and then, I'm not sure what happens whether you can do it by post, although if you are posting off your passport with your application, I would say they would put it in your passport before posting it back to you.

Do I need to post my passport??

I have got a copy of my passport/driving license and birth certificate extract to prove my ID.

Would it be a good idea to post off my passport?

Not sure to be honest Anthony, as I did mine in person. I don't think it said anything about posting the original, but I decided to take it in anyway, just in case.

I would contact the AHC to find out for certain.

Do you have an email address for AHC???

If you want to keep in touch with me regarding Aus etc then I would be more than happy to email you

[email protected] is my email address

Where are you moving to? I am moving to Noosa but will probably buy a property somewhere in Brissy.
