On the drugs front, i assume it is more the area we are staying in, i haven't seen any drug bins yet but then really haven't been here long enough.
I was sat outside on our steps last night having a fag when i spotted the dealer, he was stood there for about 10 minutes, a couple of people arrived at the same time on pushbikes from different directions, then a car pulled up.it was very organised, it wasn't as though he was stood there all night waiting to push his stuff.Indeed, shortly after he'd gone another car pulled up and waited for a few minutes before driving off ( obviously too late ).

if i hadn't been having a cigarrette at the time i wouldn't even know he'd been there.

ABC, we're living in the west end at the moment at the backpackers place, short walk into the city.Near musgrove park ( the "infamous " according to the yellow cab driver.

mlbonner, i'll have to try that one.

Times up again people, gonna have to dash.

The airport was a nightmare, although good to see people, it really was heartbreaking looking into everyones eyes and seeing their pain, knowing we were the reason for it.In the case of my mum & dad, we have taken away their only grandkids and i truly hope they com and visit soon ( hope your reading this dad ).
We boarded the plain and Muzzman and his lovley wife and kids were in the very next seats behind us lol. currently in singapore, i hope you have a great time andrew,karen & kids, see you soon.

The flight was......................superb, not a fault, flew singapore airlines from manchester-singapore ( 13 hours ), then had 4 1/2 hours at singapore airport ( bought 400 fags for 12 quid :eek: ) boarded again and flew to brisbane ( just over 7 hours), arrived in aus about 8.00pm last night.
The crew were dead friendly, loads of biscuits,nuts,sandwiches etc and as much drink as i could handle :beer: . Choice of 60 movies,games for the kids, TV etc. The movies ranged from blazing saddles ( classic ) to shrek2 .

Singapore airport has a gorgeous koi pond and some lovely trees surounding it.We ventured outside for a couple of cigarrettes and was amazed how hot it was, instant stickiness lol.

Then once we arrived we booked in and went for a walk for something to eat and drink, 100 yards from our hostel i found my first needle lying on the kerb, needless to say i was somewhat dissappointed that this would be the first thing i registered once in aus :( .

Awoke this morning to lightning and a damned loud scream from shannon whn th thunder struck ( ACDC strikes a chord :-) ) then came th rain.
Our first day in aus and we got soaked walking into the city, once in the bank we wee told it was the first time in four months ( ? ) that it had rained.I just sat back and thought to myself " yep, that sounds about right " lol.

anyway, time is almost up on here so i have to go now, will check back again soon.Take care everyone and thank you gain for you replies.

So first impressions not all you hoped for AM & Paul? :( I think you'll have to give it time, or at least give it a go. We leave on Friday via Cathay Pacific and have started having troubles already! They've said they can't sit us together as a family???? They expect my 5 yr old to sit alone, his first flight plus he's very clingy to me anyway! I am so pleased that you made it ok and apart from one little hiccup, you have enjoying the start of your new life in Brisbane. i wouldn't say it's not what i was expecting, just dissappointing that we saw a needle within our first hundred yards of exploring, that said, we haven't seen one since, so i wouldn't want to slate the place on that.

like i said, this city is beautiful, we have been ouyt today to the market on the southbank, bought some much needed clothes, and had more than a beer or two at the local.

Tonight is barbq night and the chef has just fired it up.
I have several ice cold ( and when i say ice, i mean ice lol, there are ice crystals in the pop in our fridge ) tooheys in the fridge, one next to the keyboard and the staff are amazingly friendly.

Until we get our own place and have to pay bills etc. everything is as sweet as can be.the drugs are something commonplace wherever you go so not surprised to see it here, just , like i said, dissappointed, to find it on our first night.

we awoke this morning, stepped outside for a fag and listened to the birds, trying to find a cloud in the sky and failing again. Beautiful blue sky.

Still trying to figure out international text messages but getting there.

I would like to point out that we are staying pretty close to the city and i don't know what the suburbs are like yet so please don't think this is how things are here, they are only our perspective and what we see from our balcony and the roads we take into town etc.

Paul, if you want to text a mobile here in the UK from Oz you put the number in as

+447(then the rest of the number. You need to drop the 0 at the start)

This has happened to us, (odd seats not together), firstly the airline will expect the logical aproach from the family, that is they sit one of the adults in the odd seat not the 5 year old. :rolleyes:

But go to the desk where they board you in the departure lounge explain politely the family have not got all the seats together and they will usually see if any other seats are now vacant. If the flights still fully booked, when you board you simply ask the attendant in your section to ask someone to do seat change, most people will as long as you offer them an equivalent seat, ie window for window etc.
