Default How to find a school

Hi, I know that people are encouraged to enrol their kids in school before they arrive in Oz. Although, that is sound advice, We are not sure of the exact area we will end up living in,I want to see the school for myself before enrolling my kids in it.
My question is,when we arrive, and have found where we want to live,do we then just call up a couple of schools in that area, and ask to look round, like we would in the uk. Then apply to the one we like.
Thanks!

Yep, definitely wait til you get here to find kids a school. I just rung up and made an appointment, went in for a chat etc, enrolled the kids and they started the next day.

Quick question,

Do the schools generally have places, or would alot of them be full?

It's usually a catchment area thing. Even if the school is full, if you live in their area they have to take you. (unless it's private school, then they just want your cash )

Hi ,I live on the Sunshine Coast and it isnt a catchment area thing here basically you can send your children to whichever school you wish, they are all accommodating and will show you round if you wish with your children its a good idea to bring your childrens school reports with you for them to see,and i found them all helpful.
As for private schools its up to the individual where you send your children, yes they will accept cash but usually the parents are more than happy to give it!!! Best of luck to you and yours.
