Hiya

We are not flying until 6th March. We don't have jobs to go to at the mo, am planning on contacting companies after christmas. The thing is if we were to get a job before we go it would make things sooo much easier, ie areas to look at, schools for the kids, knowing how much money to take etc etc.
So do you think that it is too early to start emailing companies, I suppose we could go earlier if we really needed to but not before christmas??
I have also found two recruitment companies that specialise in Printing, again I dont want to waste their time by contacting them too early.
Just wondered what other people did??
thanks in advance

from personal experiance and from what ive seen on here
they wont even reply until you arrive, but to be honest if i wanted another employee i`d be of the same frame of mind its just so much easier when some ones sat in front of you

just my opinion and observations

regards steve

Thanks Steve
Yes thats what a friend has said but I'm just itching to send them as it would just be so nice to go knowing that a job is waiting.

Maybe then I will stick to my original plan and send them after christmas and then follow up when we get there.

Thanks
Laura

I have to say I totally agree with the other Steve, its a complete waste of time sending them off before you arrive, the only thing your likely to achieve is to make yourself nervous about the move due to the lack of response you'll get.
Best thing you can do is plan out exactly what you want to do in the first week after you arrive, get everything ready and organised so you know exactly how your going to proceed once your here. Do your research now so you know exactly who you want to contact and the main thing i'd say is make sure you follow up an email with a phone call and push for a face to face meeting with people, im amazed at how many people just send a CV off (often with no covering letter) and then never follow up on it.
One other bit of advice, if you speak to an organisation or agency leave the next step in your court rather than there's, ie: agree a time for you to next contact them rather than the other way round, that way you retain an element of control and at least give yourself a second chance with them if you dont get what you want out of the first conversation.

I found the same as everyone else, they wont even credit you with a response unless you're in the country.

My advice would be to hit it hard as soon as you get here. It can take a few weeks for the recruitment companies to sit up and take notice.

Good luck.

My husband's a printer but he's stopped looking at jobs now. He applied for several just before our reccie and one phoned him back to arrange an interview but the others simply said to drop in and have a chat when we were in the country. Nobody was willing to offer him anything until we had moved all of us over there, even though we live in NZ and had decided that he could go early if offered a job. It's so frustrating but I do understand it. You just have to beat the feet when you arrive, or send your CV shortly before you leave telling them the date you arrive.

And irritatingly, you may find that they still won't give you a response when you are here. You just have to keep plugging away. It's normal here that if they are not interested in you, they don't reply. It's expected that you contact them to find out if they are interested or not.

dont bother just have a ring around when you arrive, i would just get the names & contact details ready, then find an area you like & ring the local ones first gary

Thank you so all the info everyone.
I saw the perfect job for him the other day but wrong state!!
I've been copying job ads that I seen into word so I have a good list of companies to call (obv. I realise the jobs will be gone but they might have something at the time!)
