Default How does Brisbane compare to Perth?

I don't want this to turn into an East V's West debate.....however, we had our hearts set on Perth until recently. Mainly due to the rising cost of living and housing.

We have now 'kind of' reverted to our original plan of heading to Brisbane. I have spent time in Perth but have not visited Brisbane.

What I would like to understand is how Brisbane 'feels' as a place to be 'compared' with Perth?

I have a good idea (from my reserach) of what's what and the differences in housing, employment, cost of living etc.........but would really like to know more about how it feels to live in or Nr to Brisbane...

Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance!

Rob

I've never been to Perth so I can't compare but I have to say Brisbane is a very nice place to live. Here in the Western suburbs, I haven't had any of the problems posters often have. E.g. I haven't encountered any racism in almost 3 years. People round here don't go to barbecues every week and segregate the sexes so that the men can talk about cars and sport and women can talk about women things. I have never been invited to a tupperware party.

The people here are very friendly and helpful, and I do have genuine conversations with checkout people, not just the "How are you?", "Good, Thanks, how are you" ritual. The schools out this way are very good, the kids are genuinely respectful (I work at the tuck shop and they automatically say "Please may I have.." before they've even decided what they want!)

In conclusion, the Western suburbs of Brisbane are a nice place to be, not that other parts aren't, just that this is what I have experience of.
