Default How do you do it

Hello,

We have activated our visa's in December and are now in the process of selling our flat but wondered what most people did when they moved to Aus as not sure how to manage all the logistics of it all.

We are heading to Perth and will rent when we move but do you just rent a holiday home at first until you find a longer term rental and what do you do with all your stuff as you are renting a holiday home - I was thinking of storing it as we kept driving past that Koala storage place when we were there but am worried about how it's all going to work as it seems a bit of a nightmare.

Also I have heard it is really difficult to find somewhere decent to rent is this true.

Any tips and advice would be greatly recieved.
Thanks...Lou

Hi Lou. When we moved over, we found a short-term rental place (not strictly a holiday home but not up for long-term rent either) on the net and booked it for 2 months to give us chance to find our feet, etc. As it happened we found a nice rental after 4 or 5 weeks so moved out early. Our stuff didn't arrive for another 3 or 4 weeks after that so there was no storage issue. If you needed to store your stuff for a couple of weeks, you might be able to negotiate that for free with your shipper so it's worth mentioning that before you sign anything. Even if it's not free, they should do it fairly cheaply. After all, you will just have given them several thousand pounds of business no doubt.

Rentals can be difficult, depending on the area. The rental market is pretty strong in most areas around Oz I understand. When we got ours in Brisbane, we went to a viewing with several others, then got an application from the agent there and then and had it back in the office completed within half an hour! That gives you the best chance of getting the place you want. Talk to an estate agent to see what info they require and have copies ready before you go looking
