Default How do we stay online while migrating..?!

Hi- we're waiting to sell our house then we're off to Perth! What's the best way to stay online during this transition period using only one provider?? We have a new laptop and we know we can get a dongle pay as you go with UK providers but will it work indefinitely when we get to Oz? or will we need to get another in Oz? Are we better buying an Aussie one? We'd really like to buy it now so we're up and running (and so we can loose our desktop!) any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Most shopping centres have $2 for 20mins type terminals. Once you get anything with a perm address like a rental agreement, then you can get a library card, and use the computers at the libraries for free.

Unless you absolutely need broadband, and can live with a modest connection speed for browsing the internet/skype and such, then I would recommend not choosing a provider and going wireless instead...

It's (mostly) free, and wireless 'hotspots' are literally everywhere you go these days, such as libraries and coffee shops.

How to setup wireless --
http://www.freewifi.com.au/images/wi...structions.pdf

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/pho...dband#wireless for some useful info for wireless in the UK...

and this for WA hotspot info http://www.freewifi.com.au/region_wa.php

However naive some people at home are with their wireless routers, try to make sure you don't 'piggyback' onto their connection, as it is a bit of a grey area and considered illegal...

Optus do a 45 day pre-paid unlimited dial up connection kit for $34.95 you can pick up the kit in most large shopping centers, it's usefull when you first arrive and are staying in temporary accomadation.
http://www.optus.com.au you will not be able to set it up from the UK but can set it up quickly here.

Once you have found a long term rental then you should be able to get broadband either ADSL or wireless, but this will be on a contract and you will need a fixed address for this.

In most shopping centres there is also PC's with high speed broadband available they charge $2 for 20mins, you create a username & pw so can save unused mins, it's also a way of staying online when you first arrive.

We also switched our email to Gmail (part of google) so our email is not tied to our service provider and can be access anywhere.

Optus/telstra dialup connections, all you need is a phoneline to plug in to. You buy a disc in the post office/newsagents etc and stick it in your laptop, plug into the phoneline and away you go.

Breakfast at Macdonalds, lunch at Starbucks - both hotpsots

If you get a 3 payg usb dongle from UK, you can (according to the man at 3) get it unlocked which would mean that you could then put in an Aus sim but AFAIK we dont have a payg broadband scheme.
