How can I meet people?

Hi guys,

I'm heading to Melbourne on 6th September on a WHV. Really exited now but just a little worried about meeting people.

Can anyone suggest ways to meet people either over there or over here?

Staying at youth hostels/backpackers was exactly what I did on my WHV. Travelled the complete circuit around Australia, including a month in Tasmania. I had a strict budget, had a great time and met lots of people
