Back in 2000/2001 everyones favourite destination was Sydney. Sydney then saw house prices rise exponentially, with Melbourne, the second favourite destination, also closely following the trend set on the eastern shores.

For a couple of years Perth had a drastically cheaper housing market than the rest of the capital cities, and every second person on this forum was heading out there. I think people saw it as the next best most affordable city. But that's definitely not the case anymore in Perth. The median house price/salary ratio puts Perth just behind Sydney, and there's a noticeable decrease in people heading out there.

I think that's true but now there are so many british expats I think the main migrants are that of family. We knew the house prices had gone up but we still came here as we had family. Also its not as far as the other states.

Since you are the estate agent do you see anything happening like in the Uk in the late 80's when house price rose so quickly and then crashed and people ended up with negative equity its just I see a similar pattern starting to emerge, and it kind of worries me about actually buying when we get there.

Go on stick your neck on the line is it possible

Hi Kaye

Sorry about the delay............... had a lousy last few days:curse:

Had to call an ambulance out for my dad the other night.......... our kid in QLD was on the blower to him and detected a problem so he alerted me.

Like a dill I couldn't remember what number to call 'cos i panicked? Was trying to ring 999 which didn't work .......... then i thought it was 911 which it wasn't...... ...... then i remembered it was 000 which i should have bloody well known anyway because i send flyers out to stick on the fridge with all IMPORTANT phone numbers on......... and i couldn't even remember a very important phone number myself? But I guess it's easy to get confused when you are in a panic situation?

To top it all........... when i did get through to 000 the lady answering was in NSW and didn't have a clue where Alexander Heights, Dianella or Menora here in WA was........ and in my panic i couldn't remember which Masonic Village unit my dad lived at?

Very confusing for everyone.......... anyway, ambulance got there eventually and took dad to Charlies in Perth............ he'd had a stroke apparently; but only a mini-one so things aren't as bad as we thought and it looks like he's on the mend now....... not too sure how long he'll be kept in Charlies though? But at least he is in good hands down there.

You wouldn't believe it? I got back home after spending most of the day hanging around Charlie Gairdner's Hospital............ to find one of the contractors erecting our new patio had fallen off the roof and one of my lads had rushed him to Joondalup Hospital.

Guess I've rambled a bit........ sorry about that.

Re your question : I'm not too familiar with UK happenings as I wasn't there. I got stung heavily over here in the mid to late 70's when some pillock put the interest rates up to a whopping 18% and i had two mortgages to service at that time in Brisbane. A lot of us got stung then............ but we recovered and are all okay now!

I don't usually like to speculate as I could get quoted out of context. On a personal note I can't really see the situation you quoted in the UK happening here....... but then I don't have a crystal ball?

My question is; how much more can house prices escalate because even though i don't earn a proper wage......... I'm pretty sure wages have not gone up pro-rata with house prices........... so who can afford these ridiculous prices? It's definitely not fair on our kids!

There is a federal election looming and the polls are predicting a win for Labor(correct spelling.......the yanks are taking over:blink:). Lets get that over and done with........... and my prediction is the market should very much stabilise then.

Whoops.......have to go.............. got a home-open in Banksia Grove.

For those with brain. I wondered why so many expats move directly to Perth. Almost everyone seems to head there. I have never visited myself and often wonder why that was. Weather, economy, community?

D*ickheads need not reapply ;)

Well for us it will be no choice as dh will be transferring to RAN subs and they're all in Fremantle.

Hi Bobcat

Thanks for your reply and why dont you have a crystal ball :D

Sorry to hear about your dad hope everything is ok with him.

Hope house prices to begin to stabilise, one of the reasons we were so concerned about the UK is kids not being able to afford house prices and now the same is happening over there.

Good luck with the house selling

Best wishes

Thanks for that............ he seems to be on the mend. They transferred him into a different ward today at Charlies............. still running tests on him. At least he has most of his speech back now.

We did fear the worst because dad will be 85 in March.......... but he's a tough old bugger!

I certainly learned how to dial up an ambulance the hard way. I drummed the correct number into my missis and our 3 boys all weekend as I don't want them to make a prat of themselves like I did, when calling the emergency number.

Maybe i shouldn't watch the Bill or all these Yankee TV shows over here?
