In general, are the British received with open arms in the work force? Or with a slight mix of hostility (as some may take over their jobs)?

In short, there is no issue.

No issues for me as a secretary in the hospital (patient facing role),nor for hubby who works in IT and most of his team are not aussie anyway. The only issue is that sometimes my somerset accent makes the old dears not understand me LOL.

They're not treated any differently from the zillions of other people who come to live here from other countries.
Britons are not thought of as anything particularly special - why would they be? They're treated the same way as everyone else.
This place is full of migrants - from Italy, Greece, Vietnam, China, India, New Zealand and a myriad other countries. If you can do the job you've been hired for, you'll be fine.

Brits don't get anti-immigrant shit and are typically met with total indifference. There's bloody thousands of them around.
Edit: actually, maybe I should say "white Brits don't get anti-immigrant shit". Perhaps it is different for black Brits.

I work in an office and don't get any crap at all. I do have a friend of a friend who's a brickie in Brisbane who told me he gets a lot of abuse.

(Australians get so touchy about being represented as unsophisticated or being on a backwater, but stuff like the minstrels on HHIS or the PM making Mexican jokes about the old Testra boss gets wheeled out and there's widespread lack of understanding of why this makes them look like a bunch of shitkickers...)

Oh, no no no, that's not abuse, that's lovable Aussie knockabout humour, bloody hell these foreigners are so touchy, why don't they get a sense of humour, don't take it so serious, mate...

The boss in Australia is China. China is the best buddy and trading partner of Australia. When I was working in Australia I was feeling that I am working for Chineese bosses (double working hours, strict check on overtime and half the salary).

Should be fine. I think 1million 'Australians' were actually born in the U.K. and more have got a parent / grandparent who was born in the U.K., etc..
The only issue you'll have is if someone wants to wind you up, but they'd just pick the next easiest thing if you weren't British.
