Housing how much ?
#1
![Default](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Just curious, as to how much people expect to or did indeed pay for their house in Aussie. I should imagine if people move from London for instance housing in Australia would seem very cheap, hence they would probably pay a lot more than say someone from Middlesborough. Thats only an assumption and based on presumed equity.
Surely how much a house costs would be the number one factor, after availablity of work and affordability are taken into account.
Above prices are in Aud of course.

Arrived in 2000, had choice of property in melbourne or SE queenland for just under $200,000, we bought in qld at $195,000. Vastly different to arriving now

That same house now would be $600,000, we've bought and sold quite a few times, always getting back into market as we got out, and therefor moving along with it, as most of the time we have been here house prices (along with everything else

Buying/selling is an expensive experience, on a 600,000 house the stamp and RE commissions/GST take around $40,000

I've a feeling the stampduty is quite a bit more than that here in Victoria, Still looking at renovating my place, but dont want to borrow 80,000 bucks upwards to do it, which I guesstimate is the cost of moving dammit LOL !

Bringing over 350,000 dollars worth of equity, (130,000 pounds, not a bad amount if your the average aged migrant of circa 30 years old) and paying 4,000 dollars a month of ones mortgage (which I guesstimate would need a 100,000 dollar income plus, especially if one has kids) over 30 years would get you.

My option wasn't there either.
Bought a 3 bed house for $237k 6 months ago. It's now worth $260+ and we've done nothing to it (well we have a half finished new kitchen
). The stamp duty was $8400.
It's about half hour away from the CBD, about half hour to the nearest beach and more importantly it's 10 minutes away from OH's work.

Someone on another thread said they wanted to move to Brighton here in Victoria. I explored this, and worked out you would need a 200,000 dollar a year income, to afford the median price of circa 1.3 mill that suburb gains. I doubt even if our high earning and hardworking Northshore regular BBSer came in at that level..

Apologies for not putting in the more affordable options that you and Vin have managed. Bonus for you and Vin, will be more spending money to enjoy the lifestyle that we have here.

It's by no means the average price for SA, I'd say that's more around $350k to $400k.
