  • NSW $283,300 equal to 4.09 times Male income of $69,253

  • TAS $191,700 equal to 3.20 times Male income of $59,872
The average wages are based on ABS figures for each Australian State for February 2009.

The average New Australian Home Mortgage in April 2009 was $344,429

With the new figures just available, this has increased to $349,604 in Jan 2010 for the all Australia figure.

There is good debt and bad debt. How much of that average $56,000 is good debt ? for Long term Investments etc, and how much is bad debt, for holidays, TV's etc.
Over 2/3 of the Australian population live in the cities.

Take WA for example: WA average house prices $282,800 (above), Perth average house prices $480,000 (approx). I’m not a mathematician, perhaps you can help ABCDiamond? What would this make the average house price in WA regional areas to be – $100,000?

Don't mean for this to come out the wrong way, but obviously depends on where you are looking to buy if you are not picky about a capital city the price drops dramatically - we brought a house and 2 blocks of land 2 years ago for $180,000 and there are 3 bedroom houses on large blocks in our rural town still for sale for well under $150,000 - this is a good option to get on your feet and then build your way up the property ladder

It doesnt state average house price, it states average existing home mortgage.

Well, with you using my average mortgage figures in WA and comparing it to the average House price in Perth, I am sure you can come up with any figures you like, even a negative price

However, on the subject of Perth prices, the ABS (6416.0 House Price Indexes: Eight Capital Cities) show Perth median prices as:

$455,000 Mar-2008
$445,000 Jun-2008
$432,000 Sep-2008
$420,000 Dec-2008
$430,000 Mar-2009
They haven't finalised June 2009 or beyond yet,
