Default House specifications in Oz

I have been looking at the websites of builders in WA and I am bemused and fascinated by the specifications that I see for new homes. Many have a family room AND a sitting room AND a theatre room. I don't know if I could devote so many rooms in one house to sitting on my arse!

I also think it's a bit strange that almost all homes only have 2 bathrooms. In a 5 bed house I would expect 3 bathrooms. Even the UK has gone ensuite crazy with some properties having an ensuite to every bedroom.

To those with the three living areas - how do you find the arrangement? Do you actually use all the spaces?

I think it just allows the family to spread out a bit. Cuts down on the arguments about what to watch on the telly I suppose. The downside to this is it can be a bit antisocial if the family are all in separate rooms (although at least I escape from the horror of having to watch Neighbours and Deadenders)

In terms of the bathrooms two is quite enough. Having individual bathrooms for all the kids just sounds like a whole lot of extra needless cleaning and mess to me!

I find these big houses awful, my house is tiny in comparison and we have more than enough room and I don't spend every waking hour mopping floors.

I have a family room and a formal lounge and dining. Nice to have somewhere to entertain that is separate from our normal living area. I do wish we had a study though.
