Default House Sharing

Hi I notice that many families are off to Oz or have done so already and have gone into their own rented accomodation.

Have many single people arrived in Oz and gone into a house share? I shared in Sydney during my backpacking year but this time I want to meet people that are not staying temporarily.

Has anyone gone into a house share with other permanent residents or Aussies? Was it easy enough? Any tips?

Cheers

Michael

I'd also like to know the answer to this question as it would be a springboard to meeting new friends.

My thoughts exactly...I'm hoping to get to Sydney in October and whilst I live on my own here in the UK I was also wondering if flatshares were the way forward in Oz...to start at least?

Be interesting to see the comments...

There is a fair bit of flat shares in the local papers in Sydney, but it depends on the area.

Its also a cheaper way of paying for a mortgage !!!!

i've lived in share houses in oz for the last 4 years, and think its definately a good way to meet an aussie friend base. i'm finally moving out on my own (in under three weeks) if i can find somewhere to live that isn't a sh!thole.

Another good site is http://www.gumtree.com.au/ - this is the Sydney one, click on the other Aussie city links at the bottom of the page.

I found this a great help when I lived in London - if anything it might give you an idea of prices and areas.

Good luck

I'd say it was pretty easy - On my walk home (Newtown) every night I must see like 20 different ads pinned to lamp posts looking for housemates to share with.
