Default House sales Increase or Decrease

Sales of new houses have increased, or decreased, in October 2008 depending on where in Australia you are looking.

Sales of new houses jumped 6.7 per cent in October, for Australia as a whole.

State breakdowns show:

up 24.9% Queensland
up 20.3% Victoria
up 0.5% South Australia
minus 12.9% Western Australia
minus 14.7% New South Wales

Meanwhile, multi dwelling/unit sales dropped by 8.6%

Not that surprising for new home sales when the FHOG increased from $7k to $21k for new builds until the end of the tax year.

Around Sydney sales of existing places are about 30% of last years turnover and the Inner West area I'm looking at buying in currently has around 8 to 10 months supply of unsold housing based on current sales volumes with the number of properties for sale is increasing by the week.

Sydney's a big place with huge variations at the moment with numbers of listings. A more accurate snapshot would be better taken end of January rather than now. 3 weeks prior to Xmas is always slower.
