Hot. Will you really like it?
I have to say I am fed up with the hot weather. When we got back from our trip to NZ in March it was already in the 20s C here in Central Europe and in April it started to normally be 25 C plus. Ever since it has been in 30 degrees C territory, today 35 C so that makes nearly 5 months of hot weather.
It should only continue for another couple of weeks then get cooler.
Still, nearly 6 months of summer this year - hot or what?!!!
So I ask myself - are you Aus emigrés-to-be ready for it? I was in the same position as you: a holiday here, a business trip there etc to warmer climes plus the odd decent UK summer day. NOTHING in comparison to constant high summer temperatures for many months.
You get hot, sticky, scratchy, the kids are uncomfortable, nobody can sleep at night. Yes, we've got AC here but it doesn't help that much (noisy, a half hour after you turn it off it warms up again etc).
Are you ready for it???!

i must admit driving around i analysed this recent hot spell (only 2 weeks btw of exceptional heat) and i must admit i really loved it..
agreed i got a bit hot in my little old escort when travelling (approx 150-200 miles per day) but all in all couldn't fault it...
hell we didn't even change from our winter duvet...it really wasn't that hot
( i remember working through the day in saudi on a flat roof painted silver thinking 'yer this is okay')
if you want me to say 'i wish it would rain/snow/hail/sleet/cold dank dark days '- ain't gonna happen..;-)
the last few day's i've been seriously considering putting on the central heating
bring back summer i say
cheers

the hottest temperature I experienced was in Australia when it hit 35oc
i was slumped out on the bed with the fan fall on. too much for me
came back to England , and what does it do hit 38oc over a 100F lol
god really has an ironic sense of humour.

Daily temps of over 30 are fine if you're on holiday in my book but not to live and work in.
Funnily enough, I lived in Tanzania for 4 years and it didn't bother me, but where we were it was quite high up and hardly ever got this hot and we usually had a breeze. Here in CE, the wind seems to get stuck somewhere behind the mountains and refuses to come down and cool us off.
I've realized this heat for a longer period of time is not for me, that's one of the reasons why we're looking at New Zealand instead of Oz. Several others as well.
Each to his or her own, but I prefer the cooler climes

Most people who live here have been saying all this for ages. holiday is one thing, running your life in it is totally different.
Summer is the bit I dread. Winter however is lovely, cool clear, fresh. So I guess it balances out a bit, you dread winter we dread summer.
It is funny tho to hear people emigrating for the Sun most people here avoid it.

Keep windows shut, blinds drawn and put the aircon on. Best way to keep cool.

Yeah not a wise move here to sleep with your windows wide open , a bit of an invitation for the bad guys to enter.

No matter where we are us humans are never happy with the weather. Me included.
I'm not looking forward to the hottest of the Summer in Oz, but if we haven't sold and left the UK, the thought of another long grey, cold, wet, windy, Icy winter depresses me.
Is anywhere perfect?
