Well yesterday it was 41, and in my house it wasn't too bad. It's the evening that's a killer with the rising humidity. Not too bad though all things considered. Felt hotter in the UK when it was 37.

Left my windows open and I found about 10 little beetles in the room on the ledge, black and red in colour. Bit of yellow at top of thorax? Nuked them and all.

I woke up last night and sat up suddenly- a massive Daddy long legs was right next to me, must have walked across me and woke me up. It was the last mistake it made, as it took an early bath in the toilet. Had to sleep with the lights on after that. All the crawlies were getting to me. After all, which species was next?

Today it is cooler, but more humid and I've just opened my back door on to the steps leading down to the yard, to get my washing off the line and bugger me, it is cooler outside AND there's a great breeze AND a bit of shade there, so I'm off to christian my yard. Crack open a VB. Shame I haven't got a fridge yet, or a microwave, but I do get a washing machine tonight off Jolyn on the forum. And when she finds her fridge I'm buying that off her as well.

So how about that, 41 in Melbourne and I have no fridge, the coolest thing I have is the shower. Us migrants are made of tough stuff.

PS These hoist washing lines are grouse. Took me 20 mins to realise you could lower the bloody things though as I was teetering around on tip toes.

See if you can eventually put up insect-screens over the windows so that they can't get in.

Don't fret, it took Adrian 4 weeks to work out how to put his up out of the box, that is, after about 6 weeks of the box hanging around the garage. One of those things you'll do tomorrow.On the clothesline, the handle is multipurpose. It can also be used to hang your peg-basket on. Just don't forget to wind it up if visitors come over.

not all windows have the screens, and some of the screens are knackered anyhow.

Hardware stores have replacement screen and will cut it and tell you how to put the spline in to hold it together. Well worth the few bucks to have a good nights sleep. Price should be about the price of a slab for screen, spline and frame if needed. Also worth a look at any houses being demolished for stuff being chucked out.

Hevs - there is a little known last art from folklore called 'sticking them in the laundry sink and washing by hand'.

I then hang them on the line, and twist the hanging ends to get most of the excess out.

Just like my mother did when I was a kid.

harmless ladybirds.
They are a different colour over here.
Take a look at a Magpie whats black in the Uk is white here and visa versa.
