Was 41 in Melbourne on Saturday.

Don't believe me?

Ask my sun burn.

Saturday was pretty nasty.... Was a hot dry 43 all day, then it rained for about half and hour really hard. Oh great we thought, that'll cool it off a bit.

Did it heck. The temp when we went to bed at 9 (we were camping) was 34 and the rain had made it so humid everything you touched was wet.

Went to bed with a wet sheet on me :)

Billy, I dont care if I start a war, I hate it. Detest just doesnt have quite the same ring to it, Patrick can bite me :p .

ABC, I dont think it was as bad, this started the end of Jan (high humidity & high heat) & hasnt let up yet. Its almost always the same in Feb (highest humidity, my least fav month by along way), but it usually only lasts about 2-3 weeks (1st week feb til about the last week) before we get a good break & with a couple of cooler days thrown in. Last year we had not long moved down here & I remember enjoying how much cooler it was. Ths year - no hope!

Hang in there folks! Only another few more weeks to the end of summer.

I wish:D last time we had heat like this it went on till MAY up here, no joke I can remember it well, we went to a Christening in Canberra, stayed down there for a week, got back in May and it was still 30+ Summers here are a lot longer and hotter than they used to be. Spoke to a guy this morning hes an aussie but lived up here for 24 years! he was moaning like mad, reckons hes moving to Tasmania cause he cant imagane what the mainland of OZ will be like in 10 years  Bloody hot I reckon. As for me, came back from the school, dashed out to the undercover deck to hang up some pool towels and bingo burnt feet, from an area thats in the shade! Temp in the shade says 37 however the weather bureau says its 32:rolleyes: I am sure they stick the thermometer up their bums with the rubbish readings they come up with, it was closer to 32 last night let alone now:D

Oh and the little aussie kids classroom was 36 degrees when I left, you cant tell me school is pleasant for them here at this time of year, :(

Now can I get a refund because I got told it only gets to 29 in summer:p

And the ocean temperature in Sydney holds up over 20 until end of april.

I even got Mrs BP in the ocean at the weekend. I think she was hoping my boardies would wash away.

I have just returned from a session at the school this morning, Year 1 class was asked to write a sentence & draw a picture about what they did on the weekend. Every child except 2 wrote "We went for a swim" LOL.

I guess that says something!

Nibbs Feb 15th 2004 1:33 pm

28 at 08:15 and heading for 38 today.

Now call me a sicko (most people do!) but I like it

Might partly explain the Australian success at international swimming comps.

Very probable. Dagboy also pointed something out the other night when we were discussing our chilhood & school life. His school had one very small area of tarmac on which the kids could play at lunchtime. No sports equipment etc, so they usually either kicked a tennisball around or played British Bulldog. Compared to my school life where we had 3 large ovals to play on & before school, at morning tea break & lunchtime, there was sporting equipment available & most of the kids would be involved in an organised game (organised by the kids that is, not the school) of netball, softball, cricket, football etc.

Could explain the reason that many aussies are so sports mad (according to the poms on this site anyway LOL) & so many are good at sport? Much more sporting culture, especially back then perhaps?

God if someone suggested sport now I would pass out:scared:
I think a cold beer and a remote control is about as sporting as I can get today. Even the swimming pool is 34degrees.

Seriously we had sports fields attached to our school in the UK. I was a bit of hockey nut, but it was a grammer school so we only did sport once a week. Went to ballet:D and ballroom dancing too (mum thought it would be a good social skill), brothers were arsenal mad and played soccer. Swimming tho was a trip to the local 'Baths', which probably explains my 50 yard certificate limit.

dotty, yeah I know, at 35 degrees its hardly conducive to getting the football out is it? But I dont remember the heat putting us off that much in primary school particularly, we still used to play stuff like cricket & softball 3 times a day. Either it wasnt as hot back then or we were barking mad! :scared:

Did ya ever play "Crack The Whip":
10 - 20 kids hold hands and run straight ahead, then the leader would turn away and back from the others. The last in the line would either end up taking giant steps or flying through the air - helped to know how to tumble.

Or Blacky Up The Chimney?
