Hi all.
I'm arriving in Sydney in a few weeks with PR. Was originally planning to find a holiday let (and read through all the posts), but as I'm going solo now think a hostel will be better re. getting to know people etc.
I know there are zillions of hostels in Sydney, but if anyone has done this before and could recommend any nicer/smarter ones - esp commutable into cbd for interviews & by a surfable beach (manly/eastern suburbs) I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks, Jason

hi mate, the YHA at Bondi is pretty good ie: clean, safe, friendly, and near a good break too. Buses are regular to Bondi Junction, where you can get on a train into the CBD.
Otherwise yes Coogee is good, when I stayed i was also at Surfside, it's was pretty rough but an absolute hoot, buses go direct to the CBD from outside too. Surf is less regular, but it's good for body-surfing and boogie boards, and easy travel to bondi, maroubra etc, plus the cafe-culture and bars are class.
you're going to have a great time mate! Enjoy it!

have to stick up for surfside mate, i spent a very good sweaty, beer-fuelled month there and nobody even came and changed the sheets! Now that's a good hostel.
i think i might just live in a hostel full-time. In fact, how do you lot feel about starting our own BE-halfway-house?

The way rentals and flatshares are going up, I'm in. Had a great time at SS but because of the people I shared with. Was in the 20 odd bunk top floor dorm and it was absolutely disgusting. Leave some food on a table and withing 30 secs there'd be a roach on it, we timed them!

still going up are they? And the pitiful savings i'm taking are still going down, right? That's great! I think i'll have no choice but to get in that dorm! I think I may have stayed in the same one, communal area when you walk in, two dorm rooms off, "bathroom" round the corner with 2 more bunks outside it? Amazing!
I think we should buy Surfside.
