"HOONS".......What???
Hi everyone,
I,ve seen this word "HOONS" on various posts and have worked out this means the UK version of the "BOY RACER"
Its been spoken about as if it is a major problem, is it?
Is it in all areas or just those with roads that are a kin to looking like a race track?
Are there laws to deal with it, like the new ones just introduced in the UK? or are they free to race?
And lastly what is it they do that gets everybody hot under the collar, apart from the obvious?
Regards all

Hoons here seem to wear beanies & have bum fluff! Go into car parks on a saturday/sunday morning & you see all the tyre marks & broken glass, empty botles & take away wrappers.
Apparently there was a huge increase in police call outs on Friday & saturday night for anti social behaviour. Police sirens up & down Marmion a lot. Nice weather brings everyone out obviously!
Raining today after a glorious weekend.

I noticed a smashed up bus shelter on Marmion and was horrified......not seen one since leaving UK.
I must have slept through the "hoonfest" at the weekend, didn't hear anything and I'm only 2 streets from Marmion.
A friend in Duncraig was saying that they are really bad there to the extent that you can't sleep and they were also tearing up the local playpark at 4pm one afternoon!! That IS naughty. :lecture:

They tore up some newly planted trees and threw them on to the school roof. The police were called but they had driven away in a hoonmoblie by the time they arrived.

I was walking back one night from the Boundary House up around the back of Peachcroft. It was late...and quiet. There was a distant buzz that grew louder as I walked along the dark street towards home. It grew loader...that buzz...and as I rounded the corner onto the Oxford road he came flying around the corner. I stopped momentarily and watched as he wizzed around the corner...laid the scooter down and smashed into the gutter. I waited and watched not 10 foot away as the scuttled scooter and startled rider organised themselves. He jumped back on and scootered off and I kept walking home for a quiet cupper.

well i've seen hoonz all over,in the cities(not that i go there often ) but up the empty roads, which is most of south island you can see the odd burn out marks on the tar seal.Best thing is live up the gravel as most of these dudes drive low riders and they're never keen on getting gravel rash on the paint.Plus when you consider there are more unsealed gravel roads in south isalnd than there are sealed tar ones it sort of makes it easy to stay away from them if you wish.
I have a friend in the Police force in northern Southland and he says its not really a big problem, its blown out of proportion down here in the south(he was a copper in Auckland for 10 years)Its sometimes hard for him to find things to do down here too ,he walks the streets saying hi to folks and the hoons....you know, like the UK use to have 30 years ago....bobbies on the beat

You know where they are by the marks on the road, even on quiet Kangaroo island there wasn't a stretch of road without rubber squiggles on it, even saw them on a dirt track!!
If you are looking at areas, look at the road markings and you'll get a good idea of the level of activity and visit at all times of day and night before you buy.
Good luck
