Thanks Sarah, I've been to a small hotel in Durban twice (just wanted a little sun for a few days..living in Scotland and all!), but I know it's a beautiful country. I've worked with a few South Africans, and they're full of stories about it. Will look into it, and see if Mr Logan's thought of it! x

It's funny you should say that BKate, Mr Logan would love to go to the Cook Is., his Dad has been and raved bout it. But apparantly they're a little chilly in June...and we don't want that do we!!

What about Thailand, fly back into Bangkok, spend some time there, then head to Koh Samui, check out the Santiburi resort (I think thats how you spell it) havent been but thinking of it for my honeymoon next year.
Its on route back to OZ, has great beaches, smart hotels, great food, nice people, different culture. not to expensive.
Just check out the weather so you dont hit their rainy season.

I reckon the Maldives would be a good option.
It's on the way. Small and secluded, superb beaches.
We went there on our honeymoon. Yes it was expensive but it's a once in a lifetime treat.
There are so many islands to choose from, you should be able to find one that suits your needs. Hopefully they've recovered from the tsunami.

It's not too far from the mainland, which was good for Jules who isn't good on little planes or long boat journeys. It is rated as medium priced. We paid a bit over £2K for the 2 of us for 2 weeks, back in '99. Flights, accom and all meals. Think it's gone up a bit since then.

Fiji, Fiji, Fiji!!

We stayed on Navini Island for 2 weeks, absolute BLISS! There are no more than 10 couples on the Island at any one time, for almost a week of our stay there was only us & one other person. The most we had while we were there was 8. The food was absolutely first class, service was faultless, you could dine outside your bure on the beach if you wanted every night, trips on the boat to other islands, snorkelling & fishing trips, all included in the price. We even had a day trip to a deserted island, just 4 of us for the day, picnic lunch provided etc, all included in the price. The only thing that we paid for while we were there were drinks & a massage.

It was absolutely the best holiday I have ever had, certainly most relaxing. Didn't come cheap, but then it was a special occasion! Could have cut down costs by only staying 1 week, but we decided to splurge .

(We stayed in the Deluxe Honeymoon Bure & I think it ended up costing us about $10,000 :scared: but check out the prices on the website yourself, or get a travel agent to get you a deal which is what we did)

If I were to do my Honeymoon over again, one place I would want to go is Bora Bora!!

I would stay in one of the overwater bungalow's and have my breakfast bought to me by outrigger canoe....

Before I die, this is my dream holiday, but for $3k'ish each, its gonna have to wait till I win Tattslotto

Now we're on the South Pacific, have to add that Fiji is great. Like MrsDB we found ourselves totally alone in places, whole beaches just for us. Magnificent.
Cook Islands are good and cheap.
Tahiti is in it's own class I'd definitely go back if I had the money. Very expensive except for the wine and baguettes! They're subsidised! Never ggot to Bora Bora, far to up market to accept the likes of us!

I worked in travel in the UK for about 8 years and The Maldives is probably one of the most popular honeymoon destinations, there are so many Islands to choose from and I would guess that the prices will have dropped a bit because if recent events, can't remember without looking whether its the rainy season or not...one company which does some fantastic destinations from the uk is kuoni..their website is www.kuoni.co.uk they are expensive but it will give you ideas of price and also the best hotels. We also used to have an under the counter guide on most of the hotels, it is usually quite trueful and will give you another oopinionon hotels, think it was called the gazetteer?(was a while ago).

I've heard of the gazetteer too. Don't know how you get hold of one. We've a friend who manages a GoingPlaces store and she didn't know either.

My old man worked in the Maldives on the airforce base in the South. Can you imagine being posted to the Maldives? ... I'm off to daydream land.

Hi I worked for Lunn Poly and we had 1 gazetteer in each branch, they were mainly used for med package holidays but as long haul destinations became more popular they introduced a long haul edition..they are great, very to the point and will give you factual information good and bad...maybe GP are cost cutting!!

Thanks Mrs Dagboy, We've got some brochures on Fiji, and my friend just came back from there, loved it and was constantly saying 'Bula' to us...which I think means welcome! Our 'creative holidays' brochure doesn't have Navini Is. but I'll check it out on the web, cheers x
