Is it not the case that this is a transitional measure to compensate for the introduction of GST? If so, when will it be phased out?

Hi all,

We have just bought our first house in a brisbane suburb, You definitely get the 7000 dollar F.H.O.G but you still have to pay stamp duty on the value of the property.

also if you have to take out a mortgage you pay stamp duty on that, however if you have never owned a property anywhere in the world eg rent in the uk, you are exempt from mortgage stamp duty and get a big reduction on your property stamp duty.

Hope this helps

Maria, Mark
