Holidays from the East Coast-ideas
Does anyone have any ideas of places to go for a holiday from the East Coast ? Something that does not cost the earth !! Not sure what type of holiday, just exploring options at the moment. Thought of Tassie but far too cold at the moment ! Any nice Island retreats ?!

Heron Island and Lady Elliott are great if you like the reef. Heron Island has a special for Queensland Residents at the moment - voyages.com.au. Also Whitsunday Islands have all sort of options from camping to 5 star resorts.

From east coast - sydney, melbourne, (flights about 100 each way) canberra well then out to the snowfields, drive up north and about 150+ islands, turtle watching whale, watching at various times of year, new zealand about 500 return. Cairns/port douglas/ in winter lovely dont bother in summer inland from brisbane if you want to see a bit of country yee haaa The ranges behind gold or sunshine coasts, northern NSW, mullimbimby hippie towns and banana plantations, byron bay.
There is loads to do , the problem comes only once you need to get on a plane to anywhere outside OZ, fares are extortinate and even a break to some other beach destination will be 1000 per person plus, which is why a aussie holiday is usually drive then camp.

To think I forgot Lord Howe Island, now thats one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Good for diving, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, wildlife, mountain climbing, restaurants and generally thinking to your self WOW! - its not a razzmatazz type of place though. Brampton Island off Mackay is pretty good, I used to work there and everyone seemed to enjoy their holidays.
