Default Holiday entitlement ?

I have noticed on some threads holiday entitlement in Nz is on 15 days !!!!

I was wondering what should we expect as a holiday entitlement in AUS.
I know different companies may have different entitlements but I am just wondering about a average ?

e.g. 4 weeks + banks holidays ?

4 weeks is average (20 days), sometimes worse - you do not build on this with time served, that is Long Service leave - eg after 10 years with one company you get 12 weeks paid leave.

As far as public holidays go - yes they are on top but check schedules and working shift for allocation of days etc, if you work mon-fri you might be ok. Mon-sat with rosta it can depend! Plus working week in terms of hours is usually longer.

All of this depends on who you are working for, government jobs are usually better, smaller private tend to be worse! I work for a Global company, got five plus in UK, standard 4 here.

Cheers

Peter (or Sue?)

Obviously, as in the UK, length of holidays will vary a lot from occupation to occupation eg schoolteachers get the longest holidays usually but 4 weeks plus bank holidays will be typical. The other thing is that some jobs have flexitime and others have 'roster days' off. I'll leave it for others in Oz to hopefully post what their actual holidays are so you get a better idea. My brother gets 20 days annual leave, public holidays and seems to average a day off every month by working extra flexitime hours.

In my job now I have 30 days holiday a year.
Then another 10 days privelage a year, as well as bank holidays
In addition I can also build up `flexi` time.

Must be mad resigning!!

What does he do at "Royal Adelaide Hospital " that allows him six weeks hol's. Can't just be a porter ( not that there is anything wrong with being a porter , Gail porter is quite nice).

+ surgeons
+ bus drivers
+ teachers
+ plumbers
+ IT workers
and so on

In NZ it a basic 15 days but it is being increased to 20 over the next couple of years. You would still get all your bank holidays, etc so not too bad.

I get as much as in the UK here but still not enough ; - ) Is it ever?

Just be grateful you're not Japanese. They get a couple of days if they're lucky. No wonder there were so many willing kamikazis.

Thought I would just add that Long Service Leave is a 'once off', your annual entitlement continues at 20 days. However, for every year after ten years you accrue just over a week's Long Service, so if you worked at a company for 16 years and didn't take any LSL you'd be paid out around 21 weeks (if you hadn't actually taken the leave - many people don't, but prefer to have a pay-out when they leave the company).

Also, some industries have negotiated a higher annual leave entitlement, I know that a lot of businesses in Broken Hill give 5 weeks instead of four. adelaidegirl

I would think that extra week for Broken Hill is a living in the sticks compensation to get people there.
