You can't be near the sea AND the centre of brisbane.

What about the man-made inland sea?

*sits and waits for the usual stock photo to be trotted out*

A week in Brissie - OMG!

In November, I'd be getting myself down to the Gold Coast, near the sea and the centre there.

yep, I agree. head down to the gold coast or sunshine coast.

cheapest accommodation = backpackers, or a tent.

things to do in brisbane - do a search on the forum, there are plenty of threads and suggestions.

It isn't a sea, it is a man made beach

That'll take care of 1 week, and that's just the reading

I suggest you stay here in Brisbane's oldest house still privately occupied: http://www.lucerne.net.au/

Read the reviews on trip advisor.com to see how highly recommended it comes. Can vouch for them as I live nearby and we bought my parents 2 nights there...their room was great...the hosts gave me a dozen eggs from their chooks. It has lovely restaurants, shops and architecture nearby. Ask for the room named "The Cottage". They leave a great breakfast selection in the room.

Hard to beat the family touch.

Train to the city takes 4 minutes. Man made beach a bike ride away...
