Hi,
Just to give a bit of background, I'm currently living in Perth but am looking at moving to Melbourne, mainly as I just find that city a lot more vibrant.
Anyway whilst looking up some jobs I saw a really good one I could apply for, the catch -its actually in Hobart.
What is life like in this city? I'm originally from the country and am not too fussed about big cities, and this place could have some advantages... cheaper housing, close to nature. I'm not worried about the weather, I prefer a cooler climate but one point to consider, I am in my 20s and unattached, will I be very bored in Hobart ? I really liked the bars and cafes etc in Melbourne and don't want to move to another clone of Perth!

Hobart has quite a lively arts scene for one thing, and a reasonable number of bars and restaurants. Its much smaller and thus quieter than Melbourne, but nothing like Perth really - if only because its much much smaller.

Hobart's a great place if you want to settle down, bring up kids, retire etc or possibly if you are into the environmental/nature scene or if you are an arty/creative type.
If you want to go out on the pull forget it.

Hi we are going to Hobart eventually (when our house sale has gone through).
We visited last year it is a lovely place but a little sleepy for some one who is single and in 20's. We are going there because we have a 3 year old and plan on having more hopefully.
Here is a link of a forum that has just started for the folk of Tas, again its only just started and the chit chat is limited. But reading the posts you will get a rough idea of what its like.

You can certainly meet people here, you may have to try harder than in a big city, but you won't feel the same intimidation or fear some people experience moving to a 'big' city.. Hobart is friendly.

And then your considering Hobart as an alternative

I went to Hobart for 7 days when I was in my mid 20's I managed to get an early flight out after 5 days

If the job paid a substantial salary and you could live in Melbourne and commute to Hobart then maybe for a year or so.
Melbournes weather's bad enough, but Hobart's is bloody Scottish

My wife was born in Hobart as the parents lived there for a few years.
Actually just saw a home movie of Hobart. It looks beautiful, Spectacular scenery like western Canada. I would definitely like to visit at some point.
But I would have to agree If I was 20 ish I would only go there for a specific reason.
