I did watch the news in England, but out here thats all you here about 24/7.Im not trying to put people off coming here, just to let people know it isnt as perfect as people say it is.We live in a nice area called Langwarrin about 50 minutes south east from Melbourne and we love it , we would never go back to England, but its not as perfect as everyone makes out thats all.

Everyone's making Aus out to be perfect? News to me......

I've spent several months in Aus and quite frankly, considering how liberal the gun laws are there, I'm amazed that crime isn't a whole lot worse. Like the UK though, it's largely demographic.

Won't put me off going though......

What Claire is getting at is that under your name at the side of your post it has a location, yours still says England. If you click on My Profile at the top of the page you can go into your user preferences and change it.

My main concern here is drugs,i know in in England loads of people smoke pot etc,but here Heroin is massive.Give you an example,i was working as a plumber in the city[Melbourne] and having to clear over 200 needles off a roof before i could work on it isnt my idea of a good days work.Ive worked all over London and never seen anything like that, the occasionally needle but not to that extent.PS ,im now working as a Steel Fixer on new sites where its nice and clean.

Yep...its all here...shootings in the city, syringes in the playground local to us (and we live in a decent area), etc, etc.

No where is perfect - unless you can afford to buy your own, private island!!!

Heroine is supposed to be a 3 billion dollar a year industry in Aus, just to illustrate the scale of the problem. I remember having to dodge the used needles on the beach at St. Kilda Melb'n. Despite this, I really liked that neighbourhood! Nevertheless, Aus is not a nation of druggies, although it is a widespread problem.

No one is arguing. You must have had your eyes closed round London
I used to work in offices off Haymarket and regularly had to step over people passed out on our steps with foil and syringes in their hands. Although we had security we had to have yale keys for each toilet cubicle so they couldn't get in off the streets and shoot up.

I can't imagine there is a country in the world that doesn't have a drug problem. Maybe Afganistan - they export it all, so maybe don't keep any for themselves.

I have to say that I used to see more needles in Brighton in a weekend than I have seen in 11 whole months in Brisbane. I may not be looking in the "right" bits of Brissie though.

And to use a quote that has been trotted out many times - same sh*t, different bucket.

Wow - where abouts are you?

We live in a decent area and I've not seen one syringe. Graffiti, litter but nothing worse than this.
