Default Hi there- Update to New Year

Having paid all the deposits to secure the house we travelled by car up to Caloundra for the Christmas and New Year. On the journey we received a phone call from the FIRB staff member dealing with our permit request saying no problems we had the permit. Then we heard from the conveyancer that she neededit in writing it 3as being faxed to our NSW address could be bring it in. As we were at Coffs Harbour we suggestedshe ask the FIRB man to fax it to her. WShe said she had asked by he said due to privacy lawns (which is taken VERY seriously ut here) he could not do this. We phoned him and asked him to do it and he said he could now we had asked.!! Only took 9 days to get this permit which was great.
Exchange took place and we arranged completion for the 13/1/04. Got to Caloundra and sang carols n the beach on 21st Dec with about 5000 others. Picnics all around and very hot. Then went for drinks on a beach front apartment to round off the evening.
Good christmas with relatives of our friends for Christmas Day (actually [prawns on the barbie) and then every day over the christmas and new year we had drinks on the verandah or patio with friends and watched the fireworks on TV from Sydney.
Travelled back to NSW on 2nd and 3rd Jan and sorted outnthe final things needed for the house purchase. Stamp duty is quite high and needs to be paid to the conveyancer. No personal cheques accepted by anyone in this business -even if offered 6 working days prior to requirement - must be a bank cheque which of course costs. We shall have to have a day in Sydney to visit our HSBC branch and get one.
The telephone system here is a minefield. We have decided to go Primus and Iprimus for the line rental and unlimited internet access $44.95 per month with 50 free local calls and their charges for local callsare the cheapest of all of them as well 15c each untimed (we also have another provider where we get very cheap 5.9c per minute or half an hour for $1.49 to the UK and USA and others all times and chaper calls throughout australia) If anyone is interested in this site - give me a PM and I will give you the details - as both parties get a $20 bonus for this introduction.
The holiday on our journey to oz via usa was fantastic Las Vegas is great and there is so much to see without breaking the bank We took the flightover the Grand Canyon - anyone who goes to V don't book through an agency or the hotel walk down the strip and jsut opposite The Circus casino there is a kiosk who has great bargain prices for the same tours and we had a great day for half the price PLUS a few vouchers for free shows and etc,. This person also gave us a lot of advice about where and how to get to the other free shows which were not publized very much.
I am in a library so will wind up for hnow and chat more when we get our computer (hopefully around 15th Jan it is thought).
I have left colin -back at the range - doing some work for our cousins he does like getting his hands dirty. By the way Dan the Plumber if you are reading this can you get in touch please. Thanks

Hi there Just hiked up to Sydney Town Hall area to get the bank cheque to pay for the house which the conveyancer wants tomorrow as we complete on 13th and everyone is on holiday until 12th after Christmas (very painful to get this cheque out)
We then have three days before the container arrives (if it does) to do some dsecoratig and changig around.
We have had a problem with the container compay - as the person we were dealking with at PSS has goe on holiday the e-mails sent to him were not opened and the others in the company can't find our payment - this has caused problems so everyone in the future send your e-mails to the enquiries desk as well as the person with whom you are dealing in case they go on holiday or are ill.
We have found out that the AQIS charge is automatically $347 plus GST AND THEN they add ay charges that the aqis people add - we were cahrged $72 for them to throw away an ice cream container with spices in it!!!!
Hope everyone is getting success with their applications - being in the library we do not have time to surf thru the other questions yet Bye Yvonne and Colin
