Default Hi everyone - New User

Hi, my name is Rinali and I am pleased to meet you all. I am from India - Mumbai, however have been living in Dubai for the last couple of years.
I have already got my PR visa and it expires early next year. I wish I had known of this site earlier - there is so much information to be found!

Hello Rinali,
Welcome. We also found this forum late but I think it remains helpful throughout the different stages ( also amusing, supportive, infuriating etc!)

Not if you leave the country and don't get back in time.

You get a Residents Return Visa in your passport valid for 5 years, and it needs renewing, IN Australia, every 5 years.

If you happen to be out when it expires, you get interesting problems. I know, it happened to me !!
It was touch and go, being allowed back to stay, at one stage.

I believe so. But I suppose its a bit like trying to leave the country when your passport will expire before you get back...a bit dense really (no offence ABC D, I am sure you had your reasons!).

Could always go for citizenship after 2 I suppose to save the hassle.

As far as I am aware, Yes. Many people get Citizenship after 2 years to avoid the problem though. Its just that I haven't done that yet, but I am now considering it, after the last fiasco.

I got back in on a visitor visa, the electronic one, and then argued my case in person in Sydney.

I thought it would be simple, I had an Australian Wife, an Australian Daughter, a house in Sydney, and they still needed form after form filled in, with two interviews. It's exhausting just thinking about it again.

sjn, Yes, you are right, and my reasons did excuse me

and Citizenship is the best way to go.
