Hervey Bay Looks Nice
Anyone here in Hervey Bay?
We simply cannot afford to live in Perth anymore - 5% inflation, everything expensive. No chance of buying a house so are starting to look at other possibilities.
If a 4 x 2 in Butler for $450,000 is your idea of paradise then good luck to you, it's not ours.
It's crazy, but years ago I would trawl through the realestate.com web site not able to believe the magnificent houses you could get for your money. It's the exact opposite now - can't believe how crap they are, for the money.
I'm now looking at propertys in places like Hervey Bay and going "wow" - massive blocks, nice looking houses, pools, sea views etc...
Plus its warm all year around - not freezing like in Perth right now.
There's even a rural fire brigade!

If your thinking of buying real estate there buy a care home for the elderly, in a few yrs time there'll only be retirees & backpackers living there
Land is still very affordable here, Hervey Bay even has running water and electricity
Seriously Hervey Bay is booming at the moment new estates springing up all over loads of retail therapy for those that need the fix. Fishing and diving is excellent only down side is the employment prospects, too far from Brissie for most folk so job wise it's either commute of settle for a lower income. I'm an hour away from the Bay, far enough away to be rural remote, property here is even cheaper though you'd need to start your own business to be able to make it affordable from a fuel price point of view

Renth, Im not exactly sure what you do, but I think you would probably be better off in one of the bigger cities up or down the coast like Bundy, Rockhampton or Mackay. I dont know what the property scene is like in all of them (Bundy isnt too bad, although alot more expensive than it was 5 years ago), but at least you would find more job prospects than in somewhere like Hervey Bay.
Funny thing is that I put a post on here the other day about Bundaberg (insert any other Qld coastal town really) & the type of person you need to be to enjoy living there. I would hate for you to turn into another arkon .

Re: Hervey Bay Looks Nice
Hervey bays come on quite a bit in last 2 years, know several people who have moved up there but all are in the medical/care field and of course with the older population have all found work quite easily.
Areas still too quiet for me, main things against it, just a bit too far (3 + hours) from bris. Also probably not worth mentioning to many but to us the beaches have no surf, more flat.
Further north of hervey bay, like mackay etc, you do really need to like heat, when people talk of queenslands humidity, yes it is humid up there for quite a few months. The south east bit, bris, Gold coast, sunshine coast really do only have bad weather for a couple of months, thats the hot humid bit usually jan and feb, rest of year really great.
Anyway you could easily find a 4 bed house with pool up in the bay, (hervey bay) for $350,000 and starting from $400,000 bris, GC, SC. I do think its much better value here, when people have posted pics of what they have paid in perth and what they got for it the value over here is still outstanding.

Re: Hervey Bay Looks Nice
we live in Mackay and are also looking to Hervey Bay - one main reason is the price of housing. Mackay is ludicrous - our rent is equivalent to a mortgage and you can't get a decent house for what you priced Perth at.
Hervey Bay for us is nice, cept for employment. Well, for me it is ok - my old employer is happy to hire me for a new property there, but unless they take Bert as well I don't think we can do it. At the mo it's between HB and Canberra for us.
Seriously, if I had investment money, it would be spent in Rockhampton. Prices are set to boom there when they open up the huge new mines - just as it did here in Mackay. But in terms of living at least in HB it is only 3 hour drive to Brisbane (and myer, and DJ's,,,, ahhhh - retail therapy).

I really liked Hervey bay when I stayed there - I remarked to Mrs B at the time that it would be a lovely place to settle. Sadly I need a CBD for my type of job

It's crazy, but years ago I would trawl through the realestate.com web site not able to believe the magnificent houses you could get for your money. It's the exact opposite now - can't believe how crap they are, for the money.

Plus its warm all year around - not freezing like in Perth right now.

Packing up the 3 dogs and the boat :scared: and hoping for some nice weather so that we can take the boat over to Frazer Island.
