Re: Here comes the sun - be careful
I think I got most of my sun exposure when fishing due to the reflection off the water...although I have always worn a wide brimmed hat when out.
I must have done some damage when I was younger....sunbathing etc.
I think I am now at an age when the damage is becoming apparent.
I would advise anyone to use sunscreen and a hat or avoid the sun as much as possible. For most people the damage may already be done so get any skin blemishes checked ASAP...you really do not want big chunks of skin cut out.
I would imagine cricket would be a particularly risky game as it involves being out in the sun for long periods...take care.
I still enjoy the odd day at the beach but, in recent years, I am usually under a sun brolly.

Luckily this seems to have been caught in time....I am more concerned about what they may find at the skin clinic.
My lesion was not a mole or a dark spot...it was a little patch of reddish dry skin with a bit of scaling on top.....nothing particularly obvious

Hope everything turns out ok.
I was talking to a guy here with one ear - apparently, like you, he took precautions (he was a tennis player), but the tips of his ears were exposed as he wore a baseball cap. Scary.

Ideally I should play cricket in a long-sleeved shirt but I find it too inconvenient, I lather myself in suncream and hope. I forgot one session, not pretty.

Re: Here comes the sun - be careful
Coincidentally I just booked in with my GP for a skin check next week. I have loads of moles. They were fine 10 years ago when they were checked in the UK but I was brought up abroad and so had lots of exposure when young.
Have a weird patch of pigmentation on my back appear and one on my arm is itchy and looks a bit suss so thought I'd get the whole lot checked. My GP is one of the skin check specialists luckily as he is a legend and always checks things thoroughly so I trust him.

Re: Here comes the sun - be careful
I put this on my Facebook a few weeks ago.
All the women on my Mum's side died of cancer, my Dad had cancer twice and I've had pre-cancerous cells removed, and have had to be checked annually for the past 11 years! I'm 31. My next door neighbour has just had cancer removed from the arteries and vertebrae in her neck - cut open from ear to ear and right round the back of her neck too. She's 38! Cancer isn't fussy...
I hope everything turns out ok for you Grayling

Also forgot to say, I'm covered in moles too and have had them checked by a GP regularly but not for about 2 years now. Will get onto this now I've been reminded, thanks!

No. I avoid - I mow with a hat on etc. I admit to not using sun cream though.

Re: Here comes the sun - be careful
Serious thread.
I have just had a big chunk of skin taken from the back of my hand which required eight stitches to repair the wound
I had the stitches taken out yesterday. The whole thing was an unpleasant and painful experience. The problem was a tiny patch of dry rough skin which turned out to be turning cancerous
I have also been referred to the skin clinic to remove some similar patches from my face.
I do not sunbathe....these have been caused by going about my daily business. I usually smother in suncream if I know I will be outside for any length of time.
I can not say that these have been caused by living over here as I have always been an outdoorsy type of person (fishing, walking, football etc.etc.).
Please do not ignore any skin blemishes, no matter how innocuous they may seem...and try and avoid the sun if possible.....you really do not want to go through a similar experience if you can avoid it.

hope you are doing ok. My wife trained as an Enrolled Nurse here in SA, last year. On one of her placements, she saw a large cancerous growth removed from someones face. She said the surgeon was amazing and did a beautiful job with great care.
All the best,
Cooler

Re: Here comes the sun - be careful
I spend most of the working day outside and always have, i keep covered up most of the time, wide brimmed hat and long sleeve shirt. Work with an English guy who has lived in Oz for nearly 30 years, never wears a hat, strips down as soon as the sun comes out, no sunglasses and i have never seen him once put suncream on. We are only a few years apart but the guy looks much much older.

I honestly was convinced it’s the work of comedian. You know the very intelligent well thought out Tongue-in-cheek sketch along the lines of Leight Francis aka Avid Merrion or Sacha Baron Cohen aka Ali G but sadly not its main stream TV.
