Help - who owns the block of land we like?
Does anyone know how I can find out who owns a couple of blocks of land that we quite like. We think that it is local builders, but not too sure which ones? Is there a land registry or something similar in NSW. Would the local council know?
thanks peeps

If its within a towns boundary it will be on file at the local council , all land records are also available through Shire Councils in NSW.
For outside town boundaries -
Find the Lot number from the Council then approach the NSW Lands Department for the owner on the Certificate of Title.

We could have found out through the council but they always fall back on the "privacy" excuse, so we had the agent who was showing us houses find out and negotiate for us. It took six months to do that and we had to pay considerably more than the going rate but at least we got the land we wanted.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone - will try the local council first and progress from there!

We recently bought a block where the property looked unlived in and we found out through the search the owner had run out of finance. We sent open letter copying in the finance companies and got a quick response.
Another quick way would put a for sale sign up with your mobile number.
Im sure the owner would be calling you quick smart

Brilliant idea - but it wouldn't have worked for me - the owners lived 60Km away and hadn't visited the site since subdivision in 1986!
