I know I saw a thread once that gave advice on what to and what not to ship but I can't find it.
We are about to ship our stuff (end of March) and we have some old stuff we want to replace.
Microwave, food processor, vacuum cleaner.
When we were over in Perth, about 2 years ago these items seemed more expensive than here in the UK so we have thought about buying them here and sticking them in our 20ft container.
The other things we have is a couple of cheap items in our garage. A cheap fridge and a cheap freezer but we wondered whether to ship them or not.
Did anyone take things and wish they hadn't and was there anything they wished they had bought before shipping?
Thanks for any advice.
Regards
Julie

I brought a new vacuum cleaner and wished I hadnt as it was crap and I ended up replacing it here. I am suspicious about taking electrical items as if they fail a short time after arrival you have no comeback (happened to my PC and PC World werent interested when I rang them lol).

The vacuum cleaner MUST be very clean with no dust or dirt inside.
Same goes for anything really, no dirt, dust or mud on anything.

We brought our freezer as it was relatively new - checked beforehand that it didn't have CFCs. I also bought a new Miele vacuum cleaner to bring - as I like the make - but I have seen them here for about the same price. Bought a new microwave when we arrived - seemed about the same price as UK - for a good make. Possible don't get as many of the cheaper ones here.
Had to buy another kettle and toaster straight away, which was annoying because I had good ones in our container but that's just the way it goes. I found Aldi quite good - quality and price wise.

Yep we shipped our fridge as wasn't very old and liked it a lot (as much as you can like a fridge!) and yes no CFC so okay to bring. Depends on what time frames you're looking at aswell as obviously if arriving before stuff you'll need to buy, borrow etc - we borrowed a fridge so that was fine but bought all the rest of our electricals - got a great deal from Good Guys and I think we were better off cost wise too .... plus I've still two stereos not in use as need plug changing and just haven't got round to it! (And yes I bought UK plug boards etc but they are all in use elsewhere!)
Good luck with all your shipping - for us we did 20 ft container and honestly we needn't have brought about a third of it!

Strangely enough neither customs nor Quarantine were interested in whether our Fridge or Freezer were CFC Free. I was present at both inspections and no one asked and there are no stickers on either.
I think this may be an urban myth .
