Hi Kelli
Thanks for the information the links were really good. It does sound nice (although I know some would disagree). We will be going open minded and will definatley be making the best of it no matter what. It does sound well hot so I think that we will start getting an idea of the properties nearer the coast. My OH has a job where the office is based in Frenchville  but he will be doing lots of travelling as his work will be all over so it shouldn't make too much differnce where we choose to live to start with. Thanks for taking the time to reply:thumbup: |

Jeez, I grew up in Rocky. Best advice to your friend would be go somewhere else! Failing that, best parts are the Range (southside) - lots of old Queenslanders with good views and then on northside, Frenchville has probably been the best area over the last few decades. The town is pretty stagnant - not much new industry opening, the Uni is the main employer, followed by the meatworks. Surrounding areas have done better with the boom, some of the mining towns inland are getting more prosperous, but still pretty dire to live in.
Yeppoon is growing and has been for the last 10 years or so, but not much employment there - the dual carriageway all the way to Rocky meant it became communtable with travel <30 mins, but I think the congestion is starting to push that back up. Rocky is a bit warmer than Brissy, and is a lot more humid. Air-con a must, a pool is also good. If your friend is desperate to live in regional Qld, there are better places that won't be such a culture shock. |

Re: Help with Rockhampton
Has anyone got young kids in primary schools in Rockhampton and what are the better areas to live in?
|
Re: Help with Rockhampton
Hi there,
Rocky is basically a valley and you are better off at either end, South or North the former near the hospitals includes "the Range" and the latter "Frenchville". With regards to school suppose it depends on ages of the kids, send me a PM if you like, been here "Rocky" nearly 6 years........Different Regards Gary |

Re: Help with Rockhampton
Rocky is probably the worst place I have spent time in and I have travelled a lot. Why anybody would consider living there is mystifying

Bloody freezing here. I'm originally from South Africa mate. UK is far too full of people. Rocky sounds great - hot and country town - brilliant! Oh and a beach with sand (not pebbles) within driving distance. Got my cowboy hat and guitar and looking forward to the rodeos!! Different strokes for different folks............... |

Re: Help with Rockhampton
Thank you so much for your reply to my post. I am very glad to hear that you all like it. We have 6 yr old twins who I am sure will settle in great. Fingers crossed that the 15yr old does so too. Even more so that I land the job as things seem really tight at the moment in QLD.
:fingerscrossed: Cheers Springoz |
