Default Help Please - Medicals For Australia

Can any one help me with a few questions on the medicals for Australia please?

We would love to move out to Australia. My husband is a roofer by trade and has had another job offered to him in semi-skilled work also.

I have heard that the Australian Gov are changing the medical criteria in December 2006. I have been advised to get my medical done before then because I have a couple of health conditions. Is there any way our medicals can be done before we start the emigration process, rather than wait until the end. Are very unsure whether we would pass and are worried about this, but we would rather know now, than trail through the process to be refused at the last stage. Thanks alot any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can get your medicals done now, but they are only valid for one year. So, you would need to have your visa and enter Australia by the first anniversary date of your having your medical. Not really advisable, as it's now taking about 8 months for a MODL 136 visa.

Hi Kurrikurri,

Where did you hear about the proposed changes in December for the Medicals?

Do you have any idea what the changes may include?

Thanks.

A little while ago I rang one of the Doctors in our local area which I got from the Immi.gov website to ask what the possibility was of us passing the medicals - and I explained what health conditions we had. He didnt commit himself, other than to say 'my advice to you is to get your medicals done before december (2006) because the criteria is changing. If you have alzheimer's or autism you wont pass the medical, but 99% of people who have other medical conditions pass. So now I am starting to worry about this as December is nearly upon us.

We had an immigration specialist working with us from sydney when we went out for a holiday in March - May 2006. But he simply messed us around and now we are some 5 months down the line, no further forward and December is nearly upon us.

Do you know anything different please?

Thank you! We were planning to get meds done in Dec or Jan anyway, but it might be best to get them done before they change .

? Is it just those 2 specific conditions you wont pass on or is the general criteria changing? although myself and OH are ok, i had a blood clot many yrs ago and am worried this could go against me especially if they are changing the medicals -

Sorry, I really dont know on that. When I mentioned our medical conditions, they were two conditions that the doc mentioned that people wouldnt pass medicals on. In a roundabout way he was maybe telling us we would be okay, but not to try if we also had the other two conditions - which we dont.

But because December 2006 was mentioned, I am a little concerned, dont know exactly what is going to change, hoping someone on Expats can help me.
