Carrum Downs has some lovely areas, however, I must admit when travelling in on Franki/Dandy Road Carrum looks terrible.
Like previously said there are a lot of new builds going on at the moment and some gorgeous houses being built. The areas around Sandhurst ( this use to be Carrum Downs) and up near the town are quite nice. The downside about Carrum Downs is there is no train link, the nearest one is 10 minutes away at Carrum or Merinda. Take a look here for more information on Carrum Downs and schools http://www.moving-to-melbourne.co.uk/carrum_downs1.htm
I think like other posters have pointed out the best thing about Carrum Downs is that it is central for everywhere and is surrounded by some beautiful areas.

Now now don't be nasty
even though scummerville is our nickname for it
Only joking about Somerville, it has it's good spots and it has it's nasty spots just like any other Town.
