Default Help with interstate driving license transfer QLD to NSW

Evening all

Looking for a quick bit of advice.

I landed in Brisbane Aug 5th this year. One of the first things I did was to get a QLD driving license. However the company I worked for transferred me to Sydney 4 weeks later.

Now I need to get my QLD license transferred over to a NSW license.

I've been on the RTA website it seems straightforward but I'm a little concerned that they will issue me with a provisional license as I've only held my QLD license since August. Even though I've held my UK license since I was 18 (14 years..eeeek!)

Has anyone done this?. Am i worrying over bugger all?.

Cheers

Evening,

I can't see that being the case. Once you have a full Oz licence, it can be swapped in any state for the equivalent one.

No, they won't

Your QLD licence should be associated with your UK licence in their system. On the application form for the NSW licence it asks you about any other licences too. Just make sure you take your UK licence with you just in case. (Bureaucracy can be a wonderful beast)

Are you on a temporary visa though? (I only ask because you talk about employer transfers) If you are, you can't get a NSW licence until you've been in Australia for 6 months and then they'll only give you one for a year at a time. If you're on a permanent visa you'll be fine.

We moved the other way, QLD just took our NSW license and gave us a QLD one for the same period (4.5 years) with no charge. Rego was a bit more of a hassle with surrendering plates, new CTP, refund old CTP etc.

Hi

This is a very simple process. You will need have proof of NSW residence(Utilities bill/Bank statement) with your new NSW address. Go in to the RTA and change the licence over.

Thanks for the reply guys

I will take my UK license along just in case!

It was this part that had me worried

"If you have held your driver licence for less than 12 months, you will be issued a NSW provisional P1 licence. If you have held your driver licence for more than 12 months but less than three years, a provisional P2 licence will be issued. If you have held your motorcycle rider licence for less than 12 months, you will receive a NSW provisional P1 rider licence."

Although as the other poster said if the QLD is linked to the UK license all will hopefully be good!.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Correct it's only for new drivers, not ones that have had a licence for ages already. You'll be fine.
