Help with Internal Flight Brisbane to Sydney

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is best to pre-book an internal flight from Brisbane to Sydney before we leave the UK or is it best to wait until we arrive in Brisbane for our recce in August.

Thank You

Phil K

The only budget airline in Oz I know of if Virgin Blue.

http://www.virginblue.com.au/

Just a tip if you are looking for things like this, if you use google.com.au rather than your default, you can search websites in Australia!

Many Thanks for that link and the google tip, its just that we did not want to get to Brisbane and find out that we should have pre booked.

Hi phil,

The wife and I just got back from our reccee 2 weeks ago. I booked our flights when got out as we could then choose to stay over a day longer if needed in certain places.

The other airlines to try is Qantas budget airline www.jetstar.com or another one is Tiger airlines.

We flew from Melbourne to The sunshine coast on Jetstar, Then The sunshine coast to Sydney on Jetstar, then Sydney to Melbourne on Virgin Blue. The total cost booking 2 days before the flights was £ 175.00 each which I felt was great value.

The reason agian for not booking before we went out was due to maybe wanting to stay a day or two longer to see more of some where.

Hope all goes well

Nick

I've always found Webjet http://www.webjet.com.au/ useful.

There are dozens of flights a day between BNE and SYD. If you are travelling mid-week you'll likely still get a cheap fare last minute. Tomorrow Virgin has fares BNE-SYD for $105 i.e about 50quid. Virgin aren't really a low cost airline, they are better than Qantas IMO. Jetstar also operates a couple of flights a day BNE - SYD, they are a budget airline for sure!

Virgin are a budget airline at a non budget price
I would say Jetstar is at least as good as Virgin and Qantas is on top.
But to be honest for a 1 hour flight just go the cheapest.

Just an idea but Virgin Blue allow you to book "blue zone" seats. Basically the exit row seats for extra nice legroom. You cant book them online and you have to phone them to book it but for a tiny charge its certainly better to be able to stretch legs.

True. The only real budget airline in Australia is Tiger.

Jetstar is most definitely a budget airline:

-charges extra for checked baggage
-no ability to book connecting flights
-flying to Geelong and calling it Melbourne
-screwed if you arrive late because the check-in staff have left to become the gate agents
-no lounges / lounge access

Not really any different to Tiger, except all Tiger flights go to the proper MEL airport.

I've got nothing against Webjet, as a means to compare fares, but I'd never book there as you will be paying (for Aus domestic flights) whatever the airline's fare is on their own website + Webjet's fees. Use Webjet to find the fares then book directly with the airline.
