help with importing a car
 
hi all,

pretty sure someone on here will know this but, what are the import costs for getting a car to aus from the uk.
have been looking at car prices over in the uk and what you get is a great deal, but i know there's gonna be a catch with the import duty

thnx in advance if anyone has an idea

You have to have owned the car in the UK for at least 12 months to import it.

I also think that if you live in OZ already, you cant just buy one over there and ship it here a year later..

This stops exotic cars being imported by dealers..

You need to have owned it 12months (and have proof of insurance, maintenance etc.) and be moving back to Australia. This is allowed once every 5 years.

or

It is a pre 1989 car.

or

It is on the SEVS list and you have a compliance document (if it hasn't a compliance doc you need to create one, it adds about $100k to the cost).


So if you'd like a classic 911, Esprit or a 348. It can be done.
