Heart Mummer Medical worry
Has anyone had a similar experience, when for our medicals the other day and would you believe my hubby has disscovered he has a heart mummer. Well shock horror there was me thinking im married to a fit fella. Need to check life insurance policy.
Anyone else disscovered this and be ordered off to see the cardiologist because with out the all clear they wont proceed any futher as they say the medical will be turned down. any feed back would be great.:scared: :scared:

The same happened to some friends of ours although it was the lady who had the murmur. Due to long waiting lists they went privately to see the specialist. It turned out she may well have had it since birth & it was nothing to worry about, they passed their medicals and have been here a couple of years now so don't panic. There was a similar thread a couple of days ago but I think that was someone with a hole in the heart. Just get to see the specialist & find out what you are dealing with.
Good luck

Hi - I had the same thing when I went for my meds week before last. Doctor told me I had a hole in my heart - I'm 24, go the gym 6 times a week, used to run for my county etc etc, was the last thing I expected. I went to see the cardiologist last Tuesday, he's given me a 95% chance of being completely okay, I have to go back for some more tests in two weeks time to confirm this for the DIMA, but I'm feeling pretty happy with the way things went.
What the cardiologist told me, was that because something was picked up it has to be investigated. Sending a report without a cardiologists report as well will just make the DIMA hold onto your meds until you have one done (more delays). Well worth going to see the cardiologist straight away (apart from the cost - but bills can be paid off when you're in OZ)
I completely understand your shock, I came out of my trip to the Doctors stunned. I kept telling myself (and everyone kept telling me) I've had no trouble up until now, so this can't be a big issue... easy to say, not so easy to believe I know!
Best thing I can suggest you do is stay calm until you see the cardiologist. My cardiologist told me that its not at all abnormal to be born with something like this and if its not picked up by the time you're about 20 then its not likely to cause a problem, he said my hole shouldn't be detrimental to me till I'm at least 60!!!!
Keep calm, keep the hubby calm, I'm sure it'll be okay

Both my husband and daughter have heart murmurs but had no problems at their medicals. We took copy letters of their last visits to consultants (though my husbands last consultation had been about 1983!!) and that sufficed. If it was previously undetected and asymptomatic I would think the specialists report is a formality.

murmors
Does your hubby smoke ?
I had a murmor and the doc said it was smoking related.
Best advice is to confront the problem.

Hiya,
I was 20 when I found out I had a heart murmour. I only found this out as I was registering with a new doctor. I was totally gob smacked and as I was working away from home rang my mum in a panic to tell her I was going to die. It sounds so silly now, but this is what I did as the doctor didn't give me any info. Apparently I have had it since birth and it is very common. It has never had any impact on my health or the way I live my life. I do however, feel slight palpitations if I have too much caffeine but this might be normal to everyone. I haven't been for meds yet, but hopefully I will get someone like Mrs. Neal had who says that it's ok. Best of luck.
