Default Heading for Adelaide!

Hope everyone has had a great christmas so far. Can anyone give us suggestions as to where to look around in Adelaide, when we come over in April, with a view to living? We would probably like somewhere that is a popular destination for brits (nothing against the ozzies, but we might like to take it slow and settle in with something/someone familiar). We've got 3 kids all under 10, like the beach, shopping, films and general socialising!!!

Glenelg!

Thats where we are living at the moment. It is on the beach, has lovley boutique shops, cafes, restaurants along Jetty Road and is only 5 mins drive to a huge indoor shopping mall and cinema complex.
It is also only 15mins drive from central city.

Hi Sam and Paul

Can't really help you with where to stay as we are still here but we will be heading to Adelaide just as soon as we sell our house and as we have 2 kids (girl 10, boy 7) maybe we could get together when we all get out there!

Have a great new year.

Sally and family

Hi Podgypossum and Sally1968 thanks for your replies. Podgypossum what are houses and house prices like in Glenelg? and the schools?
Sally where are you going in Adelaide? We have applied for our visa which was received at the end of September so we are not holding our breath for a reply before the summer of 04, but we are planning a visit in April, so would like somewhere to aim for.

Speak soon.

hello again,

House prices in Glenelg are quite expensive although you can still find a bargain here and there. Somerton Park and Brighton are right nextdoor and they are on the seafront too.
Have a look at houses for sale on this website

www.realestate.com.au

As for schools, i really cant help there as my kids are all grown up and still in London, so not needed to find out about them.

Hi
we are also heading for Adelaide...our visa went in at the start of July so hoping for middle of 2004 (or earlier) if possible, can't wait until we can say THIS year is the year we move.
Any info about a nice area for a family with a young baby no more than one hour from Adelaide centre and beaches (presumably better housing? and cheaper...more for your money?) would be really appreciated. Looking for maximum house value potential!
Happy New Year to you all

Hi Susan

If you are willing to be a max of one hour from the centre or beaches then to be honest you can pick anywhere you like!!...very few places are more than 30 mins from beach or city.
As for areas, it depends what sort of lifestyle you want. I am told that the nicer areas are ot the east and south of the city centre, but there are bargains all over the place. Best thing to do is get an online map of Adelaide, look at all the suburbs and compare prices on the real estate website i listed above.

I am going to have to STOP looking at the real estate websites - I end up spending hours on there dreaming, calculating max borrowing amounts and monthly repayments etc..........
WOW!!!!!
