Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky...tra la la tra lala la.....
they showed it in Oz too - very strange when you meet a Bloke from the other side of the world and he used to watch the same tv as you! Not so odd now, but we are talking about late 60s - early 70s! The only thing he dosen't know about is Blue Peter - gives me funny looks when I make jokes about washing up liquid bottles and sticky backed plastic!

another trip down memory lane for all those of 40ish age

Ah the power of the media! This is one of the biggest urban myths known to kiddies TV! The story was made up my the press as the reason old Pugwash was taken off air. I'm sure TOM the cabin boy,MASTER MATE and Pirates BARNABAS and WILLY weren't too impressed by the misuse of their names!!!!
Top programme though!!
Bod has got to be in my top 10!!

Sorry it is a total urban myth about the names. Here they are

The urban myth arose from a doctored videotape created by two comedians. Captain Pugwash's real crew were Master Mate, Pirate Barnabas, Pirate Willy, and Tom the cabin-boy.

When The Guardian newspaper mentioned the spoof names of the crew as if real, the creator of the series successfully sued them for libel.
