Were you charged? Even then....I'd doubt it would cause you any probs unless it was a serious crime.

BTW: One Xmas [as a drunken student].... I asked a copper if he'd like to take down my particulars

I think this got me more DIMIA points :D :D

So don't worry ;)

Hi Kate, Was the caution an informal one ie a telling off or was it an official Home Office Caution that you had to sign ie admitting the offence? If the latter then this stays on record for three years from the date of the offence. When I used to do prosecutions we could not refer to any formal caution after the three year period had elapsed but it does show on your record when doing a police check (if of course it was issued by the police)

I doubt it will affect your application but I would come clean and put it on the form just in case it does come to light in the police checks as this would look unfavourable.

Try not to worry, lots of people did silly things when they were younger!!

if you only got cautioned then you are ok and it won't show up.

It would be worth writing off and getting your police checks done just to see if it came up before you went ahead and put it down on the form - you may find that an over zealous jobsworth at the DIMIA could scupper your chances when there's a good chance it wouldn't come up on your police check.
