Or if you are me much more money for far fewer hours of work so that the other costs don't matter at all because they are insignificant.

It all comes down to where you can make the money after all if you have to work you may as well make as much as you can. I get the short straw and have to do it in the UK but it is for much much more money. Australia is looking more like the retirement option these days. But that's more about the working culture in Australia than the cost of living.
