Default Handsworth Wood Medical Centre

Got our meds tomorrow at Handsworth Wood. Can anyone tell me what the parking is like. I was told that there was a small car park to the side. Does it get busy and is it a pay and display.

The parking is very limited I'm afraid but it's not pay and display which is good news. We ended up parking on a side road near by and that wasn't too bad.

One tip I would give is make sure you give your paperwork to the lady at the desk (in the medicals bit) we sat down and waited for 1/2 hour before realising that was what we needed to do! We were obviously a little daft!

Do n't worry about the medical though I was presently surprised at how easy and pain free it was

Hi Mochinbach,

My family and I have got our medicals there to, but next Thursday next week.

Could you please advise what the format of the medical is, for example procedure, questions etc?

Sorry to ask but I get really worried about these kind of things.

hi Stacey

we had ours there at the end of May. We had no trouble finding it, but
as already mentioned the parking it limited. Be prepared for a reasonable wait
though, as there are often 6 or 7 other families / couples etc doing the same.
They have a little area set aside with toys for kids (not sure if you have any).

Overall we found the process pretty quick and trouble free. They provide you
with a confirmation letter that tells you your tracking number so that you
can check progress (via the web) of delivery of the medicals to OZ !

Good luck !

Had our medicals there. Again, had to park on the roadside. OK to find on a main road. Be prepared to be there a couple of hours as previously mentioned will be other families there also. When you enter go round to the back desk. Everything there in 1 place. Saw nurse for bloods, bp, eye check, height weight etc. Then had x-rays done.

Thumbs up Re: Handsworth Wood Medical Centre

The process itself is fine.
You go to the desk in a corner which is dedicated to emigrating candidates. The woman checks through your forms for you and then you're put in the cue for the X-ray.

That was simple. The door for the X-ray is near to the waiting room and the nurse was really friendly and nice. You just stand in front of a white board and they take an X-ray of your chest.

You also have to give a water sample. You go into the toilet, write your name on a plastic cup and then wee in it (lol)

Once you've been through the X ray you get called to another nurse who takes your blood (which was much less of a big deal than I thought), checks your blood pressure, height and weight and gives you a quick eye test.

Once all that's been done you just have an appointment with a Dr who asks you questions about your general health. He checks your chest and breathing and (if you're a lady) a breast examination as apparently Oz are worried that women are sneaking in for cancer treatment.

The Dr was really friendly and the whole thing was a lot easier than I expected. It did take hours though as we had to cue for each stage.

Hope that helps!

It went really well no problems at all. Found some where to park really easy, we were there about 2 hours for the 5 of us. Staff and Doctors were really friendly. Son got the case of the giggles when he had to show his you know whats Took the kids game boys with us to keep them occupied (ladywithatorch tip), and we spoke to other people whilst waiting who are in the process of emigrating to Australia (and canada).

Then with the change left over stopped off at a country pub and had a cold

All the best,

Stacey xx
